Position Description:
The IFES Americas Program is looking for a paid intern starting on/about February 11, 2019. The internship program is designed to provide a graduate student a unique opportunity to obtain an insider’s view of the international development realm, specifically learning about and supporting IFES’ work on electoral administration and political participation. Students who participate in this internship program will develop essential skills that are an invaluable complement to skills attained in the academic world. By providing opportunities to develop practical skills and to apply academic learning to real-world international development programs, the internship empowers participants to make the transition from academic to professional life.

POSITION:
As a member of the Americas team, the Intern will contribute research and provide administrative support to the team. This position is intended to be part-time (up to 25 hours per week). The intern will be assigned a mentor and will prepare an individual work plan for the duration of the internship to identify specific outputs/timelines/etc. The intern’s workplan may include contributions to IFES initiatives such as research for business development or preparing research products for programs, depending on the intern’s interest and IFES Americas’ need.
During the internship, the intern will participate in orientation and in regular staff meetings. The intern will also be trained to do critical administrative tasks like processing payments, preparing procurements and organizing travel. The intern will additionally have access to various training opportunities that tap into IFES’ expertise, such as on proposal development, program management and key thematic areas of elections programming. Job Responsibilities:
The general duties of an intern in the Americas region include but are not limited to:
Conduct research on regional trends
Contribute to proposal preparation and development
Prepare website updates, edit reports, and summarize program reports
Attend and report on internal and external meetings and other discussions
Support the organization of external events
Compile research from academic journals and printed media
When necessary, translate documents to/from Spanish (or French) Qualifications: Current graduate student in the Washington, D.C., metro area, studying a field relevant to IFES’ work
Very strong writing and editing skills
Detail-oriented
Ability to prioritize and take direction
Team-oriented individual
Experienced with Microsoft software tools
Excellent organizational, research and communication skills
Strong working knowledge of Spanish is preferred; knowledge of French is also appreciated
