Project Description:

This part-time, paid intern position is an entry level role designed to provide graduate students or recent graduates of undergraduate or graduate programs with an insider’s view of international development at IFES. The Inclusion Team provides technical expertise and support on inclusive elections and political processes to regional program teams and local stakeholders. The Intern will provide support to IFES’ Inclusion Team, focusing on political participation of persons with disabilities. Job Responsibilities:

Under the supervision of the Inclusion Specialist, possible activities may include but are not limited to:

  • Draft articles for ElectionAccess.org, which may include conducting virtual interviews or researching recent developments in disability-inclusive elections.
  • Prepare factsheets on country-specific or regional disability inclusion programming on an as needed basis using an IFES template.
  • Conduct research on disability-inclusive legal frameworks, identifying text that affects implementation of electoral rights for persons with disabilities, and research on global trends in access to legal rights.
  • Provide other support, as needed, such as drafting content for IFES.org on disability rights programming or assisting Inclusion Team members to develop programmatic tools. Qualifications: Education:

  • Recent graduate of an undergraduate or graduate program or graduate student currently enrolled at an accredited college/university, Master’s degree program preferred

  • Experience:

  • Relevant experience, familiarity, or interest in international development or disability rights preferred. Previous internship(s) experience with an international NGO or disabled people’s organization (DPO)

    Related Skills or Knowledge:

  • Passion for disability rights

  • Strong writing skills required

  • Working knowledge of ASL or another language a plus

  • Previous experience with CMS a plus but not required
