Primary function/purpose: As a member of the Center for Applied Research and Learning team, the paid intern will provide research support to the Enhancing Cost Effectiveness in Elections (ECEE) project. The ECEE project intends to collect and process budgetary information regarding electoral processes around the world to enable donors, implementers, and local partners to make informed decisions about investments, understand the resource implications of pursuing high-tech or low-tech reforms, and identify the most cost-effective solutions that also meet democratic standards and principles.

Job Responsibilities: Major Duties and Responsibilities:
The general duties of the paid intern include, but are not limited to:

  • * Conducting research to find publicly available budgets from electoral processes around the world;
    • In coordination with IFES staff, reaching out to election management bodies to request budgetary information and authorization for its use;
    • Interpreting and/or translating election budgets and adapting data to IFES’ established templates and framework;
    • Coordinating with IFES field offices and consultants to review relevant budgetary data;
    • Processing and entering cost of elections data onto the ECEE online platform;
    • Providing logistical and administrative support to ECEE project as needed;
    • Other research duties as assigned by the Center team.

Education: Graduate student currently enrolled at an accredited college/university.

Experience: Relevant experience with research required. Familiarity with budgets strongly preferred. Experience with elections, international development, or related field preferred. Previous internship(s) experience with an international NGO a plus.

Related Skills or Knowledge: Excellent research and communication skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and SharePoint. Detail-oriented and organized. Ability to prioritize, take direction, and handle varied tasks within deadlines. Strong communicator, both verbally and in writing. Collaborative, team-oriented individual.

Language skills: English required. Familiarity with other languages a plus.

Travel: None.
